It is Pool season!  Just remember, Safety comes first!

A cool pool on a hot day can be so refreshing!  Children of all ages enjoy the cool waters in either private home-based pools, public pools or country clubs.  With this comes great responsibility.  Pool owners and operators should take steps to prevent injuries so everyone can leave the pool healthy and happy!

Water clarity is an important component of proper pool safety.  A lifeguard or parent can't see someone in need of help if the water is murky or cloudy.  A large number of people in a pool can affect water clarity, which calls for the proper chemical balance as well as other lifesaving essentials.  A good source to view is the Pool Safely program at http://www.poolsafely.gov

Signs to look for to identify someone who may be drowning
:
  • Erratic moves, trying to swim with no headway
  • Failure to kick or move legs, motionless
  • Glassy or empty look to eyes
  • Head tilted with mouth open

>>>>> Caution: shallow water blackouts and delayed drownings should also be of great concern.  Delayed drowning can occur long after an incident in the water, and can include severe coughing, trouble breathing, chest pain, and feeling extremely tired/low energy levels, or increased irritability

Safety should come first this summer ... So have fun and BE SAFE!
